All this time at Databroker, we’ve been striving towards our goal of building the world’s most trusted and easy-to-use peer-to-peer marketplace where every organization can share, buy, and sell data. How exciting and rewarding it is to see the first fruits of our common efforts taking shape.

Databroker, the marketplace for data, is up and running!

  • Data providers can publish data, and potential buyers can browse the offerings and buy data products.
  • We’ve been receiving a steady stream of DataMatch requests and working to meet them from our growing list of data providers in a variety of communities, from geographics to people and supply chain.
  • Meanwhile, the Data eXchange Controller, which is on-premises software that enables data to be safely and securely transferred, peer-to-peer, from sellers to buyers in just a few clicks, is now deployed in live-production.

Of course, this platform, with much more to come over the following months, is being designed and built by our talented, dedicated, and diverse team.

Let’s go behind the scenes and take a closer look at the people who are keeping the Databroker wheels turning.

Meet the Databroker Lead Product Manager, Gyanendra Sharma. Gyan speaks about his passion for technology, the rapid expansion of digital data storage and retrieval systems, and his experience working in cross-functional teams.

Could you introduce yourself and talk a bit about what you do at Databroker?

Hi, my name is Gyanendra and I live in New Delhi, India. I come from an engineering background and have spent a few years at General Electric and Oracle in techno-commercial roles.

I joined the Databroker team in December last year and swiftly moved into the Lead Product Manager position. My role is to ensure that product development and delivery meet the product vision.

What made you choose your profession and tech field?

Since childhood, I have been fascinated with science and its applications.

We all have a natural curiosity to understand how fundamentals like cause and effects govern the universe we exist in. Take the rapid expansion of digital data storage and retrieval systems. In the past 10 years, data has changed the way we live, but it’s just getting started. I believe that in the next 10 years, we will see an even steeper change curve, with wide-ranging implications for business and society.

The reason I decided to make a career in the field of technology is that it has the ability to make this world a better place. Science and technology help to satisfy our curiosities but, at the same time, they make us more humble by showing us how much there is we still don’t know.

Within an organization, I love to stand at intersections where I can help people to connect the dots. I always enjoy working with cross-functional teams where I can help  team members to achieve their true potential. This role also gives me an opportunity to wear multiple hats, which not only enriches my learnings but also keeps monotony at bay.

What are the three things that are most important to you in this job at Databroker?

Meticulous execution of product vision, delivering a smooth customer experience, and driving continuous innovation.

It’s June 19th, what are you doing? What does a typical day at work look like for you?

I start my day by spending some time on the priority list. Early in the day I have my daily sync ups with the product development team. Throughout the day I am typically on calls with customers, and I usually have a few meetings with internal stakeholders. At the end of the day, the Databroker product team reviews and reflects on the progress we made. It is always satisfying to execute the plan for the day and those little victories keep me going.

Never say ... (please complete the sentence)

Never say that you cannot make a difference in your life and the lives of those around you.

If you could have any superpower, what you choose and why?

Perhaps, it’s my Indian nature that is speaking now, but I’d like to bless the world with instant Karma. If someone does something good or bad, the results should be immediate enough.

How would your best friend describe you?

A humble, sorted, and learned person.
