This year Flanders Investment and Tradehub.brussels and Wallonia Export-Investment Agency joined forces and organised a collective booth for Belgian tech-companies. SettleMint and DataBroker DAO were delighted to be part of this booth that gave us a huge amount of visibility and the opportunity to meet and network with lots of interesting people and companies.

The GSM Association, founded in 1995, represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, uniting more than 750 operators and over 350 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including handset and device makers, software companies, equipment providers and internet companies, as well as organisations in adjacent industry sectors. The GSMA also organises the industry-leading MWC events held annually in BarcelonaLos Angeles and Shanghai.

Revamped event

This year’s event started with the message ‘This is what we’re waiting for’, and as attendees kicked off the most widely anticipated four days of the year, the excitement could be felt throughout the venue. MWC19 welcomed the industry’s innovators and influencers with a new theme, a new name, and a new look to usher in the era of Intelligent Connectivity.

MWC19 evolves beyond mobile

More than 109,000 visitors from over 198 countries attended MWC19 Barcelona, the mobile industry’s premier event. Over 55 percent of this year’s attendees held senior-level positions, including more than 7,900 CEOs. No less than 2,400 companies showcased their latest technology, products, and services across 120,000 square metres of exhibition and hospitality space at Fira Gran Via.

Ushering in the era of Intelligent Connectivity

Attendees explored the era of Intelligent Connectivity, the overarching theme of MWC’s 2019 events that covers the powerful combination of flexible, high-speed 5G networks, IoT, AI, and big data. Intelligent Connectivity marks the beginning of a new era, defined by highly contextualised and personalised experiences, delivered where and when you want them. And it reshapes our industry and our lives, as new innovations intelligently connect everything and everyone to a better future.

Showcasing the Future of Innovation

At GSMA Innovation City, attendees experienced the mix of 5G, IoT, AI, and big data and saw how this will positively impact businesses and the lives of citizens around the world. Visitors had the opportunity to experience numerous hands-on demonstrations across a wide range of sectors including entertainment, transportation, environment, and robotics, as well as from GSMA programmes.

Besides offering booth space, the Belgian promoters also organised several side events. Like a very successful Belgian Beer tasting and a networking/cocktail evening in the presence of Philippe De Backer, our federal Minister of Administrative Simplification, Digital Agenda, Postal Services and Telecom. The Minister visited our booth and we had the chance to explain what SettleMint and DataBroker DAO stand for. Afterwards we were interviewed by Michaël Aussems of Techzine, one of Belgium’s leading magazines for IT professionals. Read the full article here.

In the following weeks we will continue to work on detecting new business opportunities and making things happen.

Some of the future events on our planning are Go Global Mission Nigeria, followed by Singapore edition and Event Horizon Berlin. But building on the positive response and the amount of leads we brought home from Barcelona, we will mainly be focussing on attracting new exciting projects for SettleMint and on populating DataBroker DAO with as much reliable sensor data as possible to make this platform a success story.
